Bernina Express tour prices from Milan, with the extras
Three of the five Bernina day trips from Milan cost close to the same per person, from ~$154 to ~$166. The Lake Como boat day (~$211) and the small group (~$195) sit higher. Below are all five in one table, then the costs no fare covers.
Five Bernina days from Milan side by side
The table lists the five tours on our home page at their regular "from" price per person. The figure on the booking page can move a little with the date, so treat it as a starting point rather than a quote.
| Tour | From | Length | Train and class | Group | Start in Milan | Listing includes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TaoTravel, coach and red train (our pick) | ~$155 | 12 h | Red regional train, 2nd class, windows open | Up to 50 | Piazza Duca d'Aosta, by Milano Centrale | Coach, train ride, English-speaking tour leader |
| Frigerio Viaggi, panoramic Bernina Express | ~$154 | 12.5 h | Panoramic car, if you pick that option | Up to 50 | Piazza della Repubblica 5A | Coach, train ride, bilingual guide (Italian, English) |
| Autostradale, Lake Como cruise and red train | ~$211 | 13 h | Red regional train, 2nd class, windows open | Up to 50 | Piazza IV Novembre 1 | Coach, 45-minute boat cruise, train ride, guide, radio headset |
| LUCAfromITALY, small group | ~$195 | 12.5 h | Bernina train to St. Moritz | Up to 16 | Inside Milano Centrale, upper floor | Train ticket, minivan, guide |
| Milano Art Discovery, Alp Grüm stop | ~$166 | 11 h | Bernina train with a stop at Alp Grüm | Up to 51 | Centrale FS, Piazza Duca d'Aosta | Coach, train ride, audio guide in English |
All five cancel free until 24 hours before departure. On a day that depends on mountain weather, that freedom to move the date counts for more than a few dollars between two similar fares.
Three classic coach days at almost the same price
TaoTravel's day at ~$155 is our pick. It holds 4.8 from 3,800+ reviews on Viator and 4.8 from 1,500+ on GetYourGuide, and it gives you 100 minutes in St. Moritz before the red train down to Tirano.
Frigerio Viaggi at ~$154 is the cheapest entry fare and the only one that can put you in the panoramic Bernina Express car. Its scores are lower, 4.5 from 4,000+ on GetYourGuide and 4.3 from 280+ on Viator.
Milano Art Discovery at ~$166 costs a little more and adds a stop at Alp Grüm with a short walk facing the Palü glacier. It is sold on GetYourGuide only, where it scores 4.8 from 4,900+ reviews.

Between these three, the price gap is smaller than the gap in what you get. Pick by the train you want and the stops you care about, then compare the final total on both partners for your date.
The classic day at a fair price
TaoTravel's 12-hour coach day with 100 minutes in St. Moritz and the red train down to Tirano, windows open in 2nd class. An English-speaking tour leader rides along.
What the two dearer days add
Autostradale's Lake Como day at ~$211 adds a 45-minute morning cruise on a private boat before the drive to St. Moritz. It also makes the day longer, about 13 hours door to door.
It scores 4.6 from 6,200+ reviews on GetYourGuide, while its Viator twin shows 3.9 from 76. Our Lake Como and red train guide walks through that long day stop by stop.
LUCAfromITALY's small group at ~$195 buys you a minivan with no more than 16 people instead of a 50-seat coach. It holds 4.9 from 700+ reviews on Viator, the strongest score here. The small-group guide explains what the extra money changes.
Sale prices come and go
GetYourGuide often shows a struck-through price with a lower figure next to it. Those discounts appear and vanish from one week to the next, so we list the regular fare and never a sale price.
The same tour can also cost a few dollars more on one partner than the other. Open both buttons for your date and compare the final total, taxes included, before you pay.
What the fares leave out
No tour on this site includes food, and the listings that say so name drinks and tips as extras too. Budget for these on the day.
- Lunch (a sit-down meal or something quick from a bakery)
- Coffee and pastries in St. Moritz, priced in Swiss francs
- Water and snacks for the long coach legs
- Tips for the guide and the driver, if you want to leave one
- A 50- or 70-euro fee if you lose Autostradale's radio headset
Swiss prices run well above Italian ones, so a lunch in St. Moritz costs more than the same meal in Milan. Cards work in most places, and our packing list covers the money you carry across the border.
With about 90 to 100 minutes in St. Moritz on most tours, a long restaurant lunch eats most of your free time. Many travelers buy a sandwich and spend the rest by the lake.
Two options that change Frigerio's price
Frigerio sells its day in versions, and the price you see depends on which one you pick at booking. The panoramic-car option is the one that guarantees a seat in the glass-roofed Bernina Express carriage.
Another version swaps free time in St. Moritz for lunch at Diavolezza, with pizzoccheri, the buckwheat pasta of the Valtellina. Read the option name carefully and see panoramic car or red train before you choose.
Cancelling and paying later
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure applies on all five tours. GetYourGuide also lets you reserve now and pay later, which helps if you are still watching the mountain forecast.
A tour costs less than most people expect once you price the trains alone, as our on your own or with a tour comparison shows. If time in town matters to you, read how long you get in St. Moritz before you book.
